Coming Up: Sacrament Education Seminar

"Touch the Water, Taste the Bread"
for 2nd-5th Graders & Parents
Sunday, March 21 from 2:30-6pm

"Touch the Water, Taste the Bread," our Sacrament Education Seminar for 2nd-5th graders and their parents will be Sunday, March 21 from 2:30-6pm and will include a "Last Supper" meal. This is a special opportunity for children and their parents to explore and better understand our two sacraments: baptism and communion. Information has been mailed to this age group. Contact Anne Dooley in the church office (299-1571, ext. 306 or email) if you have questions. If your child participated two years ago, they will still appreciate this seminar.

Christ Church takes seriously its commitment to Christian education, particularly as it pertains to children and youth. In addition to weekly Sunday School for all ages, a variety of opportunities exist to reinforce the Christian community and its teachings. We "make disciples for Christ" with our children through opportunities of worship, study, community and fellowship, and outreach.

Children's Worship

Each Sunday of the school year, Children's Worship (for children K-5th grade) enhances the worship experience of children by age-appropriate learning based upon the weekly scripture reading. This takes place in the Chapel during the 11:00am service of worship. In addition, a two-week Sacrament Education program teaches elementary kids the significance of Baptism and Communion. A Prayer Seminar shares the importance of prayer. Special worship opportunities geared towards children include recognition of four-year olds and 3rd graders as they receive Bible story books and Bibles. Click here to read more about children's worship.

Study Opportunities

Sunday School classes meet from 9:50-10:50am. Visitors are always welcome, and greeters are located on the two main hallways to assist persons in finding classes. Click here to read more about Sunday School for children.

Nursery & Early Christian Awareness

Our infants and one-year olds are cared for by two paid childcare workers, as well as by parents and other volunteers. Each child brings his/her own juice and snack. Toddlers enjoy an "Early Christian Awareness" program. This ministry focuses on sharing God's love and world with our young children. Childcare is provided for toddlers and preschoolers during all services of worship.

Preschool Department

Children, ages 2-4 years, have their own Sunday School classes using curriculum described above. There is a special "Sanctuary time" every first Sunday, which gives children the chance to visit the Sanctuary, hear a story, and pray at the altar with a pastor or staff member. Parent volunteers staff extended session during the 11-12 hour and each set of volunteers brings a snack and juice. The second hour is play time and story time.

Elementary Department

Children in Kindergarten through 6th grade follow an age-appropriate curriculum that covers major Biblical characters and events over a four-year period. This allows the children to cover the Bible three times from ages 2 to 6th grade. Kindergarten through 3rd graders enjoy "Second Sunday Singing" once a month in the Sanctuary.

K.I.D.S. Group (4th-6th Graders)

Children in 4th-6th grade are invited to be part of our K.I.D.S. (Kids In Discipleship and Service) Group which meets monthly. Sixth graders can also be part of the Sixth Grade Leadership Team, a unique group of servant leaders.

Seasonal Activities

Special season activities for children include the Birthday Party for Baby Jesus, our Breakfast with Mary and Joseph, the Christmas Pageant and decoration of the Easter Cross, as well as a variety of mission opportunities associated with the Christian seasons.

The church's Welcome Wednesday program in the fall, winter and spring offers both children's and youth classes.

The summer brings special events for our children. Our Marketplace Bible School kicks off in June. In addition to summer activity days for various age levels, a day camp for younger elementary children is held at the district's Camp Guilrock, and a resident camp is held for 4th-6th graders at the conference's Camp Tekoa.

Enrichment Opportunities

Our church is a community center for children's and youth activities. The Childhood Enrichment Center boasts a wonderful through-the-week school for preschoolers. Kids Ahead is our fantastic after-school program. A full spectrum of Girl and Boy Scout groups meet in our facilities. Basketball teams are also offered at the church as recreation.
