"But some of them said..."
We used the part of Monday's daily reading as the devotional at our staff meeting. It's always interesting to see how different parts of a reading speak to different people. The phrase that caught my attention was 11:15: But some of them said. Jesus had done something great -- wonderful. He had healed a mute and the man could actually speak. Most people were amazed. But some of them said "He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the ruler of demons." (Now, first of all, I want to say that I've always thought it was just somehow wrong that the ruler of the demons had such a cool name - Beelzebul. It's just fun to say.) But back to the point...even when something wonderful was happening, some people called it evil. Seems that is always true. When good things are happening, some people call those things bad. Why? Well, I think it usually has to do with fear or pride or simply resistance to change. There was a third group, too. Verse 16 says that others kept demanding a sign. Seems to me that healing a known mute would have been enough of a sign but some people are just never satisfied. But that didn't stop Jesus and we can't let it stop us either. Thanks for stopping by. Keep reading and soon we'll have the details up on how you can share your comments, too.
Blessings and love, Jan
