As a child, I found much excitement in the arrival of the postman around a couple of occasions: whenever I saved enough cereal box tops to send off for something and each fall when the Sears Christmas Wish Book would arrive. I seem to remember the catalog always having a beautiful cover with a lot of Christmas-like red colors, featuring a dreamy faced child, perhaps gazing a newly-arrived-from Santa toy. My siblings and I would pass the catalog around and look at the wonder it seemed to hold: Erector sets with motors, Chatty Cathy dolls, Red Ryder BB guns and telescopes to gaze into the universe. We would carefully study to catalog in order to share our Christmas wishes with Santa.
Starting this Sunday, the first in Advent, Christ Church begins a sermon series focused on the deeper, lasting gifts all Christians desire for themselves and others: hope, peace, love and joy. Join us each week for our All I Want for Christmas sermon series.
