From Our New Associate Pastor

Kate and Rev. Louis Timberlake

Kate and Rev. Louis Timberlake

My first thought when I drove past Christ UMC for the first time, two years ago, was, “Wow, that’s quite a unique sanctuary!” It was July of 2012, and Kate and I had just moved to Greensboro less than a month after getting married. She was getting ready to start her first year of medical school at Wake Forest and I was getting ready to begin my second year at Duke Divinity School. Greensboro, as the in-between point, seemed like a good place to live. Plus, I was starting a job at Grace UMC, near the Grasshoppers ballpark. I don’t remember what I was doing that day when I drove up Holden Road and past the entrance to CUMC, but I remember my second thought being, “It’d be pretty cool to be a pastor at that church.”

Now, I’m not a very superstitious person, but I guess that was some kind of premonition. After already living in Greensboro for two great years, Kate and I are elated to be a part of this church community. We’ve heard so many great things about this church and the ways that it impacts Greensboro. And, it turns out that many of our friends from Grace have friends at Christ, so we’ve already heard wonderful things about many of you!

I grew up in large churches, so I feel right at home in the midst of the constant activity and excitement of CUMC. But, one of the most difficult things at a large church is getting to know everybody. I’ve enjoyed meeting many of you in the past week or so, but I really want to get to know you better! I’ve found that the best way to get to know people is either one-on-one or in small groups. We’re already working on times that I can come visit many of the groups in our church, but, if you have a small group, Bible study, breakfast group, etc., I’d love to drop in and get to know all of you a little bit better! I’d invite you to contact me or Susan Pabon in the church office and we can figure out a time. Also, I’d love to go grab coffee or lunch, if you’re available! And, I finally have some seating in my office, so please let me or Susan know if you’d like to schedule a time to stop by and chat! I’m excited to be in ministry with you!

Blessings,

Louis
