“I want to know where my money goes,” is a common statement made by do- nors to various agencies and causes. This Sunday, May 4, you have the chance to do just that as a special offering will be received for the work of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), a not-for-profit organization dedi- cated to alleviating human suffering around the globe. UMCOR’s work reaches people in more than eighty countries, including the United States. UMCOR provides humanitarian relief when war, conflict, or natural disaster disrupt life to such an extent that communities are unable to recover on their own.
While UMCOR cooperates with other aid organizations to extend our reach, its most important partners are the people we serve. We are confident that successful solutions to emergency or chronic conditions begin with the affected population. UMCOR provides these survivors not only temporary relief but long-term education, training, and support.
UMCOR spends 100 percent of designated donations on the projects our donors specify. This means that when crisis strikes and a special offering is taken at our church, every penny of the money collected goes to the area in need.
This is possible because for more than fifty years, United Methodist congregations have been taking part in a special One Great Hour of Sharing offering, laying the foundation for UMCOR’s ministry of relief and hope. Donations UMCOR receives through this offering, along with other undesignated gifts made throughout the year, cover the cost of “doing busi- ness.”
This Sunday, make a difference. Give generously to One Great Hour of Sharing.
