SPRC Announces New Senior Pastor

Members and Friends of Christ United Methodist Church,

Your Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC), the group of laity elected to oversee the staffing needs of the congregation and to relate closely with the appointed clergy, is pleased to announce that Bishop Paul Leeland, our episcopal leader in the Western NC Annual Conference, will appoint the Rev. Morris Brown as our next Senior Pastor. Morris is a gifted pastoral leader who has blessed all of the churches that he has served and we are excited about the gifts and graces that he will share with Christ Church. Morris will begin his tenure at Christ Church on July 10, with his first Sunday in worship being July 16. As we prepare to welcome Morris into our church family, your SPRC will work on a transition plan that will include a number of opportunities for him to connect with the congregation and the community. As that plan solidifies, we will share it with you. Read below for more information about Morris.

Morris is a native of Asheville, married for 32 years to Pamela Kish Brown of Cleveland, OH. Pam teaches visually-impaired students for Guilford County Schools. They have two grown sons and two wonderful daughters-in-law. Zach and Ellen live in Durham. Zach is the account director for Great Believer, a creative agency out of Brooklyn, NY. Ellen teaches theatre arts at Durham Academy. They are expecting their first child in early August. Caleb and Kelsey live in Raleigh. Caleb is a Ph.D. candidate in inorganic chemistry at NC State. Kelsey is a dietician at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro.

Morris is a graduate of Mars Hill College, where he majored in Mathematics and Business Administration. Before entering the ministry, Morris worked as a loan officer and land appraiser for the Federal Land Bank. He earned his M.Div. at Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY. Since entering the ministry, he has received additional training through the Royce Reynolds Leadership Program and the Reynolds Program for Evangelism and Discipleship. He also has chaplaincy training and continues to study the Enneagram as a tool for self-discovery and growth. Morris has served churches in High Point, Greensboro, Charlotte, and Reidsville.

Morris is passionate about helping people experience the relevance of the Christian faith for their post-modern lives. He is also passionate about the music of his favorite artist, "The Boss," Bruce Springsteen. When he is not working Morris enjoys golf, reading, travel, "working under supervision" in Pam's garden, and antiquing. Morris is both humbled and honored to have the opportunity to serve Christ UMC.

We invite you into a season of prayer during this time of transition. You are encouraged to incorporate the following petition into your prayer life: Holy God, in this time of transition, may your Spirit rest upon the people of Christ UMC, upon Mike and Lauralee, and upon Morris and Pam. Prepare us all for a new season of faithful ministry for your kingdom. Amen.
