April 6 is the first Sunday of the month and the fifth Sunday in Lent. Communion will be observed at all services of worship. In addition, remember to bring canned good for First Food Sunday and Greensboro Urban Ministry. And don’t forget to put your “Change a Life” donations into the black buckets in the Gathering Space. All money goes to missions! Rev. Susan Norman Vickers will preach the message Tempted to Discount His Power, based on the scripture story of the raising of Lazarus (John 11:1–45). A stewardship message will be shared at all services and the Confirmation Class will attend the 11:15am service. Hope to see you on Sunday, and bring a friend!
In light of this week's Scripture passage about the raising of Lazarus from the dead, this week's hymns reflect God's faithfulness and steadfast love for us: "How Firm a Foundation, Ye Saints of the Lord" and "O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go". Since Holy Communion will be celebrated at all services this Sunday the closing hymn is a hymn of departure for Commuion services: "Now Let Us from This Table Rise"
Offertory Anthem at 8:30am will be "I See You Face to Face" by Robert Lau, which has a Communion text; at 11am the Offertory Anthem by Claude Bass is based on a text by Charles Wesley, "O Love Divine, What Hast Thou Done?"
Instrumentalist contributions to our worship leadership at 11 this week will include guest organist Betty Mooney and oboist Heidi Birkner, who will both play Lenten selections in the course of the service; in addition, Ms. Birkner will assist in accompanying the Chancel Choir's offertory anthem.
