Sunday, August 10, is the ninth Sunday after Pentecost. Rev. Michael F. Bailey will begin a new series, The Halves that Make for Whole United Methodists with the sermon, “Whole: By Being Evangelical and Social,” based on Isaiah 58:6–12 and Matthew 28:16–20.
The hymns for this week's 8:30am and 11am services are "Come, Christians, Join to Sing", "Lift High the Cross" (CRUCIFER hymn tune) and "For the Healing of the Nations" (CWM RHONDDA hymn tune). The closing voluntary at 8:30 will be a setting by Paul Manz of the CRUCIFER hymn tune. In addition, a vocal duet of Frank Kincaid, tenor and Larry Cooper, baritone, will sing a setting of the devotional hymn "More Love to Thee, O Christ" freely arranged by Ovid Young. The offertory will be "Fairest Lord Jesus" arranged by Larry Shackley.
At 11am, the summer gospel choir will sing as offertory an arrangement by Mary McDonald of the gospel song "Glory to His Name". Both organ voluntaries will be movements from the First Organ Symphony by Louis Vierne.
