Sunday Preview: October 26, 2014

Sunday, October 26, is the twentieth Sunday after Pentecost. Rev. Michael F. Bailey will preach the sermon, Don't Worry About A Thing, based on the scripture Matthew 6:25–34. As it is also Commitment Sunday, we will be invited to bring our 2015 pledge cards to the altar to consecrate our gifts to God.

In addition to our Sunday events listed below, we also have our Sunday yoga classes, Financial Peace University, Flute Choir rehearsal, Youth Choir, and Centering Prayer. Please check with your ministry leaders if you have any questions about these events.

Worship Through Music

At our 8:30am traditional service, the New Covenant Choir, accompanied by Thomas Graham on cello, will sing "With All I Am," reminding us on this Stewardship Commitment Sunday that we bring not only our financial gifts, but our whole selves to offer to our Lord.

The opening organ voluntary and opening Hymn of Praise, "For the Beauty of the Earth", reflect our gratitude for the beauty of God's creation and God's care. The New Covenant Choir, accompanied by Thomas Graham on cello, will sing "With All I Am," reminding us on this Stewardship Commitment Sunday that we bring not only our financial gifts, but our whole selves to offer to our Lord. This concept will continue in the Hymn of Response following the sermon. "Trust and Obey". The service will close with the singing of the hymn "Take My Life and Let It Be" as a hymn of commitment.

At our 8:45am New Horizon service, we will worship through music with the following songs:

At our 11am traditional service, the Chancel Choir will also highlight the message of consecrating our whole lives to God with the anthem "Take My Life."

The concepts of commitment and dedication will continue with the opening voluntary "If You Will Only Let God Guide You", arranged by Craig Phillips. the Chancel Choir will also highlight the message of consecrating our whole lives to God with the anthem "Take My Life." In addition to the hymns "For the Beauty of the Earth" and "Trust and Obey" we will sing our Anniversary Hymn, specially written in 2006 for the congregation's 50th anniversary, in which we give thanks to God "for decades past, for service yet to come".

Choristers

Due to school being out on Monday, there will be no Choristers rehearsal this Sunday.

UMYF

JrHi UMYF will meet at 6pm for Halloween games. Please bring $3 for a snack supper.

SrHi will meet at 2pm at the Gym for Rake and Run, and will return to the church by 5pm for Youth Choir.

Discovering Christ Church

New to Christ Church? Join us for the Discovering Christ Church classes in Room 110 during the Sunday School hour (9:50am to 10:50am) for the next three Sundays, October 26 through November 9. The classes will begin on October 26 with an unofficial tour of the church and the following two Sundays the ministers will address key beliefs and practices of the United Methodist church and the specific programs and ministries of Christ Church. Then on November 16 at noon, if you're ready, you’ll be invited to have a casual lunch, meet the staff, fill out some paperwork and become an official member! Write these dates on your calendar and plan to join us.

Adult Sunday School Open House

We offer thirteen different adult Sunday School classes. All classes will be ready to receive visitors and returnees any time, but especially during the month of October. Brochures, along with an Adult Sunday School Greeter, will be in the Gathering Space during October. If you would like to try out some classes, or have been meaning to return to your former class, now is the perfect time to visit! Doug Fairburn, our Adult Sunday School Coordinator, will be near the Connection Point desk every Sunday in October from 9:30am to 10am, to help adults find a Sunday School class that meets their interests.
