Sunday, November 2, is the twenty-first Sunday after Pentecost. Rev. Michael F. Bailey will preach the sermon, Every Tear Wiped Away, based on the scripture Revelation 7:9–17, in recognition of All Saints Sunday.
This Sunday is also First Food Sunday. Please bring non-perishable food to Holy Grounds on Sunday. There is a constant need at Greensboro Urban Ministry and they need our help. Thank you for your generosity!
This Sunday is also All Saints Sunday at Christ Church. It is the Sunday nearest All Saints Day. On this Sunday, we especially remember the people who have died who have helped to shape our lives of faith. All Saints Sunday is a day to say “thank you,” not to the people who have died, but to the God who gave them life on this earth and who gives them life in eternity.
Also, don't forget to turn your clocks back one hour to Standard Time at 2am on Sunday morning.
In addition to our Sunday events listed below, we also have our Sunday yoga classes, Financial Peace University, Flute Choir rehearsal, Choristers, Youth Choir, and Centering Prayer. Please check with your ministry leaders if you have any questions about these events.
Worship Through Music
At our 8:30am traditional service, the music will focus on our observation of All Saints Sunday, when we celebrate the lives of the saints who have gone on to glory before us during the past year. The observance will include the presence of candles lit in memory of those who have recently gone before us. The New Covenant Choir will sing "Inside Your Kingdom," which expresses the wonderful belief that "The glory I will see, a place of rest for eternity inside your kingdom waits for me." We will sing the traditional All Saints hymn “For All the Saints who from their labors rest”, the familiar, centuries-old hymn “On Jordan’s Stormy Banks I Stand”, and Isaac Watts’ great hymn “Come, We That Love the Lord”. The closing organ voluntary will be a brief toccata by Marcel Dupré based on an ancient chant for All Saints Day. *
At our 8:45am New Horizon service, we will worship through music with the following songs: * "Only One Name" (as sung by Big Daddy Weave/"Your Name") by P. Baloche) * "Praise from the Saints" by Lynn Gordon * "When I Look into Your Holiness" by Kathy & Wayne Perrin * "Revelation Song" by Laura Story
At our 11am traditional service, the choir will present a special work for All Saints Sunday, "Requiem Aeternam," composed by Christ Church Chancel Choir member Bill Cates in memory of fellow choir member Luke French. This is a beautiful new setting of the traditional Latin Requiem Mass (Mass for the Dead) text, "Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine," or "Grant them eternal rest, O Lord." The work will be sung in Latin with the translation included in the bulletin.
The observance of All Saints will include the presence of candles lit in memory of those who have gone before us during this past year. Hymns will include “For All the Saints”, “O What Their Joy and Their Glory Will Be”, and Isaac Watts’ great hymn “Come, We That Love the Lord” The opening voluntary will be played by hornist Abigail Pack and the closing organ voluntary will be a brief toccata by Marcel Dupré based on an ancient chant for All Saints Day.
