The Door of Accepting Grace

Sunday, November 17, 2013

Today we continue our sermon series, entitled This New House that Mike launched last week which examines the work of God’s grace in our lives. Writing in response to another preacher and theologian who challenged John Wesley to articulate his beliefs about the nature of the Christian life, Wesley offered up the metaphor of a house to explain his understanding of the activity of God’s grace and how that grace brings people into relationship with God. For him, the house was a person’s relationship with God. The grace of God that prepares us to enter into a relationship with him was the porch. The accepting grace of God that moves us off the porch and ushers us inside was the door and it is this doorway that we are going to focus on this morning. (Full text PDF here.)
