One of the great blessings that we can have as a church is the presence of families with preschool- and elementary-aged children—and the joy and noise that young children bring with them. For ChristKids Children’s Ministry, one of our greatest hopes is for families to have a meaningful worship experience each Sunday that they are at Christ United Methodist Church. Our teams have been working hard to figure out the best ways to reach children of all ages, and we are excited to share our plans for our Kids Worship ministry, which will begin on Sunday, September 8, at our Holden Road campus.
Children who are infants-PreK will continue to have the opportunity to go to the Nursery (0s-1s) or Worship Care (2s-PreK) during any worship service, while elementary aged children (grades K-5) will have the opportunity to participate in Kids Worship for a portion of the worship service. We believe that is important for children to experience corporate worship and for our congregation to experience the joy that children bring with them to the services. We also want our children to be able to learn and engage with scripture an age-appropriate and meaningful way. In seeking to honor both of these desires, children will begin in worship with their families, and will be given the opportunity to leave the larger worship service for Kid’s Worship prior to the sermon.
At Kids Worship, children will have the opportunity to engage in the same scripture that is being preached about in the worship services in a fun and age-appropriate way. We are thankful to the group of parents and other leaders who have helped to develop this plan and are excited to see how God may use this ministry to bless families at Christ Church.
Kids Worship will take place in the Chapel. Children who attend Kids Worship during the 9am contemporary service will be returned to their families in the Fellowship Center at the end of the service. Children who attend Kids Worship during the 11am and 11:15am worship services will be picked up by their families at the end of the worship services.
Since there are some logistical challenges of moving children from services to different spaces at different times, we will have two “trial runs” to help us smooth over any hiccups before officially launching this ministry in the fall. Those dates are July 21 and August 11. We will communicate more details with elementary families as these dates approach.
Do you have a heart for helping children engage in meaningful worship? This ministry will need volunteers each week.
