Membership Matters

“And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” —Hebrews 10:24-25

Belonging… we all want to belong. As holy and beloved children of God, we are created to seek connections with one another. This means that we are created to belong with and for one another. In the context of a church or community of faith, belonging is captured in the idea of church membership. Membership takes various forms: as infants we may be “baptized members;” at confirmation we transition to “professing” members. Sometimes we transfer our membership from one community of faith to another as we move for college or career.

Membership, though not required for participation at Christ Church, is an important step of that sense of belonging. By officially joining, we make covenant agreements to love, grow, and serve alongside each other, and we commit to using our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness to build up God’s kingdom. If you want to learn more about becoming a members of Christ Church, we invite you to attend one of the Discovery Sundays we hold throughout the year.

Jesus told a parable of a lost sheep and how the Good Shepherd will leave the 99 to go look for the one that is lost. In like manner, we have some members who belong to Christ Church, but we have not been in contact with them in a long time, and we need your help. In the Church Office and at christgreensboro.org/member-resources, we have placed a list of Christ Church members with whom we would like to rekindle our connection. However, we are not sure of the accuracy of the information. Please check out the list and submit  any updated contact information for the members listed. You can submit at christgreensboro.org/update or in the Church Office. Note: if you have had any change in address, phone number, or email, but have not given the Church Office this update, you may submit that information as well.

Thank you for helping us reconnect to those who belong to the Christ Church family. Through your efforts, you will be encouraging one another as we seek to reconnect with all those who belong to our wonderful community of faith here at Christ Church.
