+ Dominican Republic Mission Team

For nine years, the Dominican Republic Mission Team traveled to the Dominican Republic to build a medical clinic; provide a weekly medical clinic; and teach Vacation Bible School to local children. Now, we provide financial support for the completion of the building project.

+ Early Response Team

The Early Response Team provides a caring Christian presence by responding within 24 to 48 hours to areas in our region that have experienced a disaster or event resulting in significant physical, economic, or emotional damage. ERTs require short-term commitments; time spent in service on site averages about 3 days.

Get Involved: Volunteer to be a part of a pool of 30 trained and certified volunteers, from which teams will be drawn based on the situation. Provide funding to stock a trailer or support teams when deployed.

+ Volunteers in Mission (VIM) Building Teams

The Western North Carolina Conference’s building teams travel to countries around the world to construct churches, community centers, orphanages, and more.

Get Involved: Support the mission with a monetary contribution to the Building Team committee; distribute trip information; or apply to be a part of an upcoming trip.

+ South Carolina Mission Trip

Youth in grades 9 through 12 travel to John’s Island, SC, and surrounding communities each summer to work with Rural Mission, Inc., to complete need-based home repairs.

Get Involved:

  • Youth: Participate in fundraising for and go on the trip.
  • Adults: Volunteer as leaders.

+ Winter Shelter at West Market Church

CUMC joins with other local churches to assist West Market Street UMC with its Winter Emergency Shelter between December and mid-March.

Get Involved: Volunteer to help with registration, meal preparation, and clean-up on Friday evenings. Calls for volunteers usually begin at the beginning of November.

+ Habitat for Humanity

Working with Habitat for Humanity of Greensboro and a group of local churches, CUMC works each year to build a house for the working poor in Greensboro.

Get Involved: Volunteer to build, or donate to the Habitat fund.

+ Habitat Lunch Crew

CUMC volunteers provide lunches for Habitat work crews six Saturdays per year.
