MISSIONS AND OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES

PECK ELEMENTARY

We maintain an ongoing partnership with our neighbors at Peck Elementary! There are many opportunities to support their students and staff each year. We are always looking for Classroom Buddies, Reading/Lunch Buddies, Field Trip Chaperones, and Bus Greeters. We then have more specific opportunities throughout the year such as delivering Backpack Beginning Meal Bags to classrooms, helping their Social Worker, Ms. Bush support the students in their varying needs, assisting with 5th grade graduation and end of year testing and more! See the Serve Chain or Contact Katey Galyon at kgalyon@christgreensboro.org for more info.

The need for food for college students is not what we hear about in the news, but the need is just as great. Find the list of needed pantry items at the Mission Cafe and here: SOP/SRG Food List. Donations can be dropped off at the Mission Cafe and in the drop off bin outside near the door that leads to the Fellowship Center and don’t forget First Food Sunday!

MEALS ON WHEELS

About 40 CUMC members currently volunteer with the Meals on Wheels (MoW) program run by Senior Resources of Guilford County, and we would love to have even more. We gather one day each month (the 4th Tuesday) to deliver about 300 meals to homebound seniors. You can choose to deliver as part of a pair or alone. Deliveries begin around 9AM and last about 2 hours. To volunteer, you will need to apply then go through a short training session at Senior Resources. You can begin the process online - https://www.senior-resources-guilford.org, or contact Al Rives (rivesab@wfu.edu) with questions or for assistance in applying. Another way to help is by donating to the Senior Resources Food Drive. This list can be found here. Donations can be dropped off at the Mission Cafe and in the drop off bin outside near the door that leads to the Fellowship Center.

GREENSBORO URBAN MINISTRY

Another option is to serve at Weaver House. For GUM Weaver House meals we need need 5-7 volunteers to prepare their own menu for roughly 70 (Call weaver house front desk the Monday before to verify number). Arrive in time to have dinner prepared by 6:45 serving time. Should be cleaned up and heading out by 7:30 at the latest. No pork products or pasta please. Up to $250 reimbursement for food. We need volunteers July through December. Questions contact Amy Travis, atravis@christgreensboro.org. If you’d like to serve at Weaver House, click the link above for details and the schedule.

BACKPACK BEGINNINGS

BackPack Beginnings' mission is to deliver child-centric services to feed, comfort and clothe children in need. They welcome donations of non-perishable food items, gently used clothing & books.  Volunteers are needed to sort donations, assemble food bags, fill comfort backpacks, and work in the family market.  Christ United is scheduled to work the first Thursday of the month, from 10 AM - 12 PM at 3711 Alliance Drive.  For more information and to sign up, please contact Craig & Carrie Davis @ keppydavis@aol.com.

FIND YOUR PLACE

Finding your place in ministry at Christ United Methodist Church

At Christ Church, we believe that all of us share a calling to follow Jesus, be his disciples, and join him in his ongoing work of ministry in the world. We call this our “Equipping Ministry.”

“Equipping the Saints for Ministry” is a New Testament concept from the writings of Paul. Equipping ministry is all about engaging and involving servants in Ministry. At Christ Church, we strive to have a strong Servant Culture, doing God’s work in this church, the community, and the world. Our Church is a training ground for the Great Commission (Go and make disciples).  We want to Connect people to meaning beyond themselves.

Spiritual Gifts Assessment:  Christ Church believes that each person is called and gifted to be in ministry.  Our spiritual gifts assessment will help you discover your gifts and then, if you so choose, a Ministry Mentor can assist in exploring the different ways you can use them.  You can click the Spiritual Gifts Assessment button below. The spiritual gifts assessment takes about 20 minutes and there are 64 questions. You can score the assessment yourself or meet with a Ministry Mentor to find out how you can use your gifts at Christ Church.

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ…From him the whole body…builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.  Ephesians 4:11-13

For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.  Romans 12:4 - 5

Ministry Mentor Description

Ministry Mentors walk alongside our members and friends, as Resource People and Connectors, to answer questions or connect you to people who can. They can help you “pull it all together” --- looking  at Heart (Passions), Abilities, Personality,  Experiences, and Spiritual Gifts (for those who choose to take the inventory).  This is for both new and long time members. Contact Katey Galyon or Debbie Hayes with any questions.  kgalyon@christgreensboro.org, dhayes@triad.rr.com
