  • The Story with Virginia Reynolds: Community Room B, January 14 - April 22 (No meeting on Ash Wednesday)

At first glance, the Bible can seem like an ancient collection of words, disconnected from the rhythms of daily life. We often read Scripture in snippets—individual verses or familiar passages—sometimes missing the grand narrative.

But what if we stepped back and saw these ancient texts from a wider perspective? Not as relics of the past, but as vibrant, living words that still speak today? What if Scripture isn’t just a record of what was—but a story we’re embedded in, a narrative still unfolding?

This study invites you to discover the Bible as God’s ongoing Story of love, redemption, and purpose. And you’re a vital part of it. Together, we’ll explore how our personal stories intersect with God’s continuing work, and how the Author of our faith is still writing stories of hope, healing, and transformation—including yours.

Join us as we read the full narrative of "The Story" through a new lens, and uncover how God's Word is not just history—but a present and living reality that shapes who we are today.

    Details:

Former Christ Church Pastor Virginia Reynolds will moderate our weekly gatherings.

The study will cover 2 semesters for a total of 20 weeks in which we will read approximately 80% of the Bible.

You will need your own copy (preferably Hard Copy) of “The Story.” Some advanced copies have been purchased by the church and can be picked up from the Connection Point desk on Sundays or from Lynn Long in the church office for $5.

Each week, you will read 2-3 chapters and come ready to discuss your thoughts and insights in a conversational setting.

This course will be offered in a hybrid format with options to attend either in person or on-line.

  • Jesus was Different with Dan Gobble: Community Room A, January 14 - April 22 (No meeting on Ash Wednesday)

Jesus was Different: Spiritual Growth Through Actually Following the Teachings of Jesus - Dan Gobble - book study (all weeks except Ash Wednesday) - In our world today, one of the biggest criticisms that unbelievers have against Christ followers is that they are oftentimes lukewarm at best and hypocritical at worst. Jesus didn't command us to be either of those. In fact, Jesus was different in ways that totally surprised the world around him. As Jesus's disciples followed him, they were taught to do things the Jesus way, and usually this was quite different. I believe that if we are following Jesus's teachings and commands then we will look noticeably different from the world around us. If you are hoping to gain spiritual growth in your walk with Jesus, this book will both encourage you and challenge you in ways that will leave you with the opportunity to make a change in order to grow to be more like Jesus. Jesus wants to invite you into a more significant way of life through following his commands. When you do this, you will be different like Jesus.

  • Parent Check In / Walking Group with Stephanie Beal & Cameron Chantrey: Fellowship Center, January 14 - April 22 (No meeting on Ash Wednesday)

Let’s continue to support one another on our parenting journeys! The games cart will be available afterwards for some time to relax and enjoy one another’s company.

ChristKids Wednesdays this Winter & Spring

We’re creating a relaxed, restorative space centered around unstructured play and open-hearted connection. Depending on the weather and the needs of the kids, we’ll gather on the playground, in the gym, or in Room 103.

Why unstructured play?
Today’s kids are growing up in what author Jonathan Haidt calls The Anxious Generation: a time when constant supervision, academic pressure, and screen time have edged out the kinds of free, imaginative play that build emotional resilience, social skills, and mental health. Unstructured play allows children to practice problem-solving, manage risk, navigate social interactions, and simply be kids. We want ChristKids to be a space where children can exhale, laugh, explore, and connect in meaningful ways, with one another and with God.

Spiritual Practices Offered
While play will be our main rhythm, kids will also have the opportunity to enter into quiet, sacred moments through:

  • Independent Prayer Stations: Thoughtfully designed spaces where children can explore prayer and reflection in age-appropriate, creative ways.

  • Holy Listening: A practice of compassionate, prayerful presence, where trained adults (our Holy Listeners) offer children a chance to be heard, loved, and reminded of their belovedness.

What is Holy Listening?

As described by Jaymie Derden and Rev. Dr. Leanne Hadley, Holy Listening is “when a person is fully present with another: listening; not judging; not distracted… and trusting that as they listen, God has joined them to offer wisdom, guidance and healing.” It is a sacred act of being with another person—especially a child—in love, presence, and trust that God is part of the conversation.

Our Holy Listeners will be available during free play. Children are invited, not required, to visit. If they choose, they may light a candle to remind them that God is with them, listening alongside us. These simple, powerful moments of connection are meant to assure children that:

  • They are wise and wonderful.

  • They are created in God’s image.

  • They carry God’s inner wisdom and can make good, faithful choices.

Holy Listening doesn’t offer advice or quick fixes. Instead, it trusts God to do what God does best: show up in love.

We hope this midweek rhythm becomes a place of renewal not just for our kids, but for our whole church family. Thank you for helping us build spaces where children can flourish—body, mind, and spirit.

ChristYouth Wednesdays this Winter & Spring

Wednesday nights after dinner, Christ Youth will carry a spirit of movement and mission. We’re creating a relaxed and flexible rhythm where students can recharge, speak freely and live out their faith in ways that are hands-on and community-driven.

We’ll often be in the youth loft or outdoors, depending on the week, with space to unwind and engage with each other and the world. Some nights will focus on group conversation or spiritual practices; others may be mission-focused as we help prepare for church-wide outreach (like our participation in Greensboro Pride or our ongoing support for western NC communities recovering from Hurricane Helene.)

Exploring Missional Faith
This season, we’re inviting youth to help shape where and how we serve. We’ll be learning about local organizations doing important community work and discerning ways to partner with them through service, advocacy or support. There may even be a short field trip or two to explore these connections more deeply.

Above all, we want Christ Youth to be a place where teens feel safe to be fully themselves and take ownership of the impact they can have in the world.

Our goal isn’t just to teach about faith, it’s to live it out together.
