Welcome Wednesdays This Fall

Classes for Adults

  • The Story with Virginia Reynolds: Community Room B, September 10 - November 19

At first glance, the Bible can seem like an ancient collection of words, disconnected from the rhythms of daily life. We often read Scripture in snippets—individual verses or familiar passages—sometimes missing the grand narrative.

But what if we stepped back and saw these ancient texts from a wider perspective? Not as relics of the past, but as vibrant, living words that still speak today? What if Scripture isn’t just a record of what was—but a story we’re embedded in, a narrative still unfolding?

This study invites you to discover the Bible as God’s ongoing Story of love, redemption, and purpose. And you’re a vital part of it. Together, we’ll explore how our personal stories intersect with God’s continuing work, and how the Author of our faith is still writing stories of hope, healing, and transformation—including yours.

Join us as we read the full narrative of "The Story" through a new lens, and uncover how God's Word is not just history—but a present and living reality that shapes who we are today.

    Details:

Former Christ Church Pastor Virginia Reynolds will moderate our weekly gatherings.

The study will cover 2 semesters for a total of 20 weeks in which we will read approximately 80% of the Bible.

You will need your own copy (preferably Hard Copy) of “The Story.” Some advanced copies have been purchased by the church and can be picked up from the Connection Point desk on Sundays or from Lynn Long in the church office for $5.

Each week, you will read 2-3 chapters and come ready to discuss your thoughts and insights in a conversational setting.

This course will be offered in a hybrid format with options to attend either in person or on-line.

  • The Art of Hospitality with Lori Gray: Community Room A, October 8 - October 29

At Christ Greensboro, we believe that hospitality isn’t just a task—it’s a calling. The Art of Hospitality is a new class designed to help us explore what it means to practice radical hospitality in every corner of our community. Whether you're greeting at the door, pouring coffee, or simply sitting beside someone new, this class will help you see those everyday moments as powerful acts of welcome.

In a world that often feels disconnected, radical hospitality says, “You belong here.” And here at Christ Greensboro, that responsibility belongs to all of us.

Come discover how warmth, presence, and intentional kindness can transform lives—starting with your own. Sign up today, and let’s grow together in the art of making everyone feel at home. Book: The Art of Hospitality (Revised Edition) by Yvonne Gentile & Debi Nixon

  • The Gospel Foundations for Evangelism with Alan Follett: Community Room A, September 10 - October 1

"While we Christians are familiar with what is known as "The Great Commission" in Matthew 28, the question remains: are there "great commissions" in the other three Gospels? This class will seek to identify the foundations for evangelism in the other three Gospels, looking at the distinctive aims of each Gospel."

"We will examine what we mean by the word evangelism and see how that understanding has evolved over the years. We will also look at the connection between evangelism and mission. Most of the reading will be from the Gospels. Handouts will be distributed at each class, Participation - both within small table-sized groups and within the entire class - is strongly encouraged!"

  • Psalms Bible Study with Dan Gobble: Chapel, September 10 - November 19

A study of the Book of the Psalms looking specifically at the theme of God’s unwavering commitment to justice.  We will explore the how divine justice is presented in the Psalms and how divine justice is critical to the well-being of the human family as well as peace on earth and a stable future for the planet.  We will lean in and listen for those points where God invites us to be active partners and join together with God in establishing justice and peace on a creation-encompassing scale, which the world desperately depends upon!  So we’ll be reading the Psalms not just for information, but for formation as we let God’s word continue to shape and form us as members of the God’s House of Love.

  • Parent Check In with Stephanie Beal & Cameron Chantrey: Fellowship Center, September 10 - November 19

  • Chrismon Class with Gwen Worthington: Art Walk, October 1 through November 19

Chrismons—short for “Christ monograms”—are beautiful, symbolic ornaments that represent Christ and the Christian faith. You often see them on Christmas trees during the holiday season. You may even have a Chrismon tree in your own home! Here at Christ Greensboro, we display three Chrismon trees each year for everyone to enjoy throughout Advent.

Chrismons can be placed on any tree—you don’t need a special one to display these meaningful decorations.

This fall, you’re invited to join us for a special Chrismon-making class after our Welcome Wednesday dinners, held in the Art Walk space. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced crafter, there’s a place for you. We’ll have simple patterns for those just starting out, and more intricate designs for those looking to grow their skills.

No cost if your Chrismon will be placed on one of the church’s trees.

$4 per Chrismon if you’d like to take it home for your own tree.

Come enjoy an evening of fun, fellowship, and creativity as we prepare our hearts—and our trees—for the Christmas season.

ChristKids Wednesdays this Fall

This fall, Wednesday nights at ChristKids will look a little different—and that’s very intentional. We’re creating a relaxed, restorative space centered around unstructured play and open-hearted connection. Depending on the weather and the needs of the kids, we’ll gather on the playground, in the gym, or in Room 103.

Why unstructured play?
Today’s kids are growing up in what author Jonathan Haidt calls The Anxious Generation: a time when constant supervision, academic pressure, and screen time have edged out the kinds of free, imaginative play that build emotional resilience, social skills, and mental health. Unstructured play allows children to practice problem-solving, manage risk, navigate social interactions, and simply be kids. We want ChristKids to be a space where children can exhale, laugh, explore, and connect in meaningful ways, with one another and with God.

Spiritual Practices Offered
While play will be our main rhythm, kids will also have the opportunity to enter into quiet, sacred moments through:

  • Independent Prayer Stations: Thoughtfully designed spaces where children can explore prayer and reflection in age-appropriate, creative ways.

  • Holy Listening: A practice of compassionate, prayerful presence, where trained adults (our Holy Listeners) offer children a chance to be heard, loved, and reminded of their belovedness.

What is Holy Listening?

As described by Jaymie Derden and Rev. Dr. Leanne Hadley, Holy Listening is “when a person is fully present with another: listening; not judging; not distracted… and trusting that as they listen, God has joined them to offer wisdom, guidance and healing.” It is a sacred act of being with another person—especially a child—in love, presence, and trust that God is part of the conversation.

Our Holy Listeners will be available during free play. Children are invited, not required, to visit. If they choose, they may light a candle to remind them that God is with them, listening alongside us. These simple, powerful moments of connection are meant to assure children that:

  • They are wise and wonderful.

  • They are created in God’s image.

  • They carry God’s inner wisdom and can make good, faithful choices.

Holy Listening doesn’t offer advice or quick fixes. Instead, it trusts God to do what God does best: show up in love.

We hope this midweek rhythm becomes a place of renewal not just for our kids, but for our whole church family. Thank you for helping us build spaces where children can flourish—body, mind, and spirit.

ChristYouth Wednesdays this Fall

This fall, Wednesday nights after dinner, Christ Youth will carry a spirit of movement and mission. We’re creating a relaxed and flexible rhythm where students can recharge, speak freely, and live out their faith in ways that are hands-on and community-driven.

We’ll often be in the youth loft or outdoors, depending on the week, with space to unwind and engage with each other and the world. Some nights will focus on group conversation or spiritual practices; others may be mission-focused as we help prepare for church-wide outreach (like our participation in Greensboro Pride or our ongoing support for western NC communities recovering from Hurricane Helene.)

Exploring Missional Faith
This season, we’re inviting youth to help shape where and how we serve. We’ll be learning about local organizations doing important community work and discerning ways to partner with them through service, advocacy, or support. There may even be a short field trip or two to explore these connections more deeply.

Above all, we want Christ Youth to be a place where teens feel safe to be fully themselves and take ownership of the impact they can have in the world.

Our goal isn’t just to teach about faith, it’s to live it out together.
